"Local people used the well, which had good water quality."
The well of old Tenkai-ji Temple is a very valuable, venerable well among many artesian wells found in Shuri.
Tenkai-ji Temple, standing on a hill stretching from Shuri Castle to the west, was built during the reign of King Sho Taikyu (1454 to 1460). The well was built in 1697, during the reign of King Sho Tei (1669 to 1709).
The width of the well’s vertical shaft, which looks like a flask, gradually increases with depth. Near the water surface, the well is shaped like a hemisphere. At the mouth of the well are traces of the pillars on the east and west, on the extended connection of which are rectangular stones on the stone walls. The stones may have been used to secure and position the joists for the board-thatched roof. - Quote
