The memorial tablets for kings of the Ryukyus since King Shunten have been worshipped at Sogen-ji. Before the war, the stone tablets stood on both sides, east and west of the stone gate. The tablet on the west was destroyed together with the building during the war (a piece of the top of the tablet and a piece of the central part are kept at the prefectural museum.) Only the tablet on the east still remains.

Both the tablets are built of fine-grained sandstone (Nibinufuni). The front inscription on the monument is written in kana and the back in Chinese. The stone tablet informs all visitors to dismount. The year indicates 1527. The round sun on the top, clouds and phoenixes on its sides, and arabesque art on the surroundings are engraved on the surface of the tablet. The whole surface of the tablet is well-balanced and the carving technique is excellent among all the existing inscriptions. This tablet is a valuable cultural property to learn about the changes of calligraphy and carving techniques. - Quote
