Japan’s southernmost station’s monument, Akamine Station

This station is the second stop from the Naha airport station heading towards Tedako-Uranishi station connected by the line called 「Yui Rail」(Okinawa Toshi Monorail) that has a total of 19 stations. It is located on a main road which connects Naha with southern areas and has good access to local buses and taxis. It has a panoramic view of the Marine Self Defense Force Naha base since it is an elevated station. When the Yui Rail monorail began service in August 2003 it made this station the southernmost station in Japan. Oyama station of the Ibusuki Makurazaki line run by JR Kyushu had been the southernmost station in Japan until then.
