Ryukyu Festival
Event
The “Ryukyu Festival” was started as a Hatagashira (Bamboo pole flying a streamer) festival in 2000, where traditional Okinawan Hatagashiras were gathered in one location. Having been joined by classical performing arts and creative performing arts, soon it was developed into an Okinawa traditional performing arts event. You can enjoy creative Eisa dance, Shishi Mai (lion dance), drum playing performances, and Ryukyuan dance. Not only Okinawan traditional performing arts but also the traditional performing arts of mainland Japan such as “Hokkaido Yosakoi Soran,” “Kouchi Yosakoi,” and “Nagasaki Snake dance” are staged. This festival is a must-see for people who love traditional performing arts.
