Shuri Castle Park, Hokuden
Historic sitesHistoryShuri Castle ParkWorld heritage
The “Hokuden (North Hall),” located on the north side when you are looking at the Seiden straight from the Houshin Gate, was where administrative affairs of the Ryukyu Kingdom government were carried out. It was also used as a reception hall where Chinese investiture envoys were entertained with food and drinks such as tea and liquor and by Ryukyuan traditional performing arts, such as kumiodori (a classical performance of Ryukyuan theater and dance). The Hokuden is currently still used to entertain foreign dignitaries, one example being the banquet held here for the 2000 Okinawa Summit.
