The Bank of Japan Naha Branch Exhibition Center
Museum
The Bank of Japan Naha Branch Exhibition Center is open to the public for free and does not require a reservation. The exhibition center is divided into two sections, History Room, to learn history of currency, and Bank Service Room, to learn what the Bank of Japan Naha Branch does.
The History Room exhibits Hatomesen, a bronze coin with a hole, also called Tomasen, Ryukyu-tsuho oval coin with a square hole (two types of coins, Tobyaku and Hansu), and B yen bills which were circulated during U.S. rule period, to learn about currency history of Okinawa.
The Bank Service Room explains the roles of the Bank of Japan Naha Branch that many people do not have a chance to learn about. Some of the interesting exhibitions are to see a stack of ten-thousand-yen imitation bills for a total of 4 billion yen, to feel the weight of 100 million yen by using imitation bills, to touch shredded old bills, and anticounterfeit technology.
Naha Branch is the first place for the Bank of Japan to offer exhibitions to the public; this exhibition is a rare experience for visitors.
